hris Brown's Style in "Party"
Late in 2016 R&B legends Chris Brown and Usher, along with the godfather of trap music himself, Gucci Mane, teamed up for “Party”, the second single off of Brown’s then-upcoming album Heartbreak on a Full Moon, now notorious for its 45-tracks length.
The party anthem came along with its own video clip, which features many of the traits that you’d expect from a Chris Brown performance: countless dancers on screen, impressive dance moves, and his typical playful style.
Chris Brown over the years has become a fashion icon to many as he embraced and shaped many of the trends that dominated the early 2010’s, such as wearing oversized hoodies over skinny pants. While some of these trends may have faded away, Chris’ taste is undeniable, so let’s dive deeper into what he, and his co-stars, wore for this clip!
Outfits from the Music Video
0:09 - Chris Brown here wears a metallic green bomber jacket. The one in the video features some print, and appears to be custom-made. But when it comes to bomber jackets, you can’t go wrong with Alpha Industries.
The Hundreds Hat (Sold-Out)
0:15 - One for the “old school” streetwear lovers. The hat worn by Brown is from The Hundreds.
Asymmetrical Hoodie & Black Jeans with Nike Air Force 1s
0:53 - As mentioned earlier Chris Brown has been instrumental in popularizing certain fashion trends, and the asymmetrical hoodie is certainly a staple of his style. Chris Brown completes the look with the Nike “Special Field” Air Force 1s matched with a pair of black jeans.
Varsity Jacket & Dries Van Noten Shades
Mid-Top Sneakers & Black Ripped Denim
White Hoodie with Denim Jacket & Blue Jeans with Timberland Boots
4:31 - Both artists in new outfits for the big finale. Chris Brown now sports a plain white hoodie under a denim jacket. He then proceeds to complete the look with a simple pair of blue jeans, now rocking a classic pair of Timberland boots for some extra old school hip-hop vibes.
Fur-Lined Coat & Leather Pants
As you may have noticed there is no mention of Gucci Mane, who (unfortunately) only shows up for one brief shot during his verse, wearing a Dolce & Gabbana hoodie that has been sold out for quite a while (keep in mind, this video is quite the throwback).
Chris Brown, on the other hand, is definitely giving out some style classes here. As already stated his style may not be the most up-to-date with the current trends, but this also proves how much he values personal taste over hype.
It’s also important to note the more “functional” aspects of his fashion choices. As a dancer he has to move a lot while performing, and his choices in clothing reflect that in the form of comfortable, often oversized tops, matched with skinnier bottoms to emphasize his moves, and sporty sneakers to facilitate it all. The artist here definitely shows that you can be comfortable in your clothes, and stylish at the same time.
